The Hunger Games fans have received the best of news, as not only will there be a new book, but there’s also a film adaptation in the works, and this time, it will feature Haymitch Abernathy as the protagonist.
“Sunrise on the Reaping” is the upcoming movie in the action and fantasy franchise set to debut on the big screen on November 20, 2026. Therefore, fans will have to wait for over two years to discover the story.
Due to the incredible news, many viewers and readers have been wondering if Woody Harrelson, the actor who previously brought the character to life, will return for the highly anticipated prequel of his character.
Woody Harrelson will not return for THG6
Woody Harrelson has not made any mention of the new production being developed regarding his former and iconic character, Haymitch Abernathy. However, it is unlikely that he will return for the prequel.
The film will tell the story of a young 16-year-old Haymitch, who was recruited for the 50th Hunger Games, which is also known as the Second Quarter Quell, as a tribute from District 12.
It is widely known that Abernathy formed an alliance with Maysilee Donner, and thanks to their efforts to survive and all the bloodshed they had to endure, he managed to emerge as the victor of the games.
Who will return for ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’?
Well, so far, the official cast hasn’t been announced yet, as it’s too early, and the project is still in pre-production. However, there’s hope that we might see Tom Blyth as the young Coriolanus Snow.
The Billy the Kid actor showed interest in returning to the franchise earlier this year during an interview, but it’s unclear what will actually happen, as the prequel will be set 40 years after The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
If he’s present, it’s possible that the team behind the movie may have to use prosthetics and even CGI to age him so much. Who knows? Maybe even Donald Sutherland will return… although everything is a mystery so far.
