The Substance“, written and directed by the talented Coralie Fargeat (Beyond Blood and Revenge), has been proclaimed as one of the best movies of the year, not only within the horror genre but also among thrillers.

The story explores themes of identity, beauty and the consequences of tampering with self-perception. It follows a fading celebrity who experiments with a drug that creates a younger version of herself.

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley have stood out for their incredible performances, as well as their on-screen chemistry. The stars have been praised for the way they brought Elisabeth and Sue to life in this dark comedy.

How and where to watch The Substance on streaming

The Substance had its premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and will be available a few months after its theatrical release on September. It has been confirmed that it will be part of the Mubi catalog.

This decision was quite surprising, as the platform is known for specializing in art-house, independent and classic films. It offers a curated selection of films that is constantly refreshed, instead of maintaining a massive catalog like other services.

According to IGN, these types of dramas are typically available between 21 and 77 days after their release in theaters. It was reported that the title will arrive on Mubi on October 31, just in time for Halloween.
