Star Wars keeps expanding the franchise, and there is good news for The Mandalorian fans: Jon Favreau will direct a movie about the fan-favorite bounty hunter. Actually, it’s titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu” so you can also expect the return of Baby Yoda.

According to Variety, the film will go into production later in the year. Favreau, who also created the series, said in a statement shared by the outlet that, “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

The Mandalorian, which has three seasons available on Disney+, stars Pedro Pascal as the titular role. There are no details regarding if the film will follow the series or how it will fit the timeline of the whole Star Wars universe. However, the series was renewed for a fourth season as well.

The Mandalorian film is not the only upcoming film for the franchise

Since the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019, which raked in $1 billion worldwide, several films have been announced, including movies from director Patty Jenkins and “Marvel” producer Kevin Feige, nothing concrete materialized.

On the other hand, there are other TV shows related directly to The Mandalorian: The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. Per Variety, Ashoka creator, Dave Filoni, will also be behind the upcoming movie, as well as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

Apart from this one, Lucasfilm has another Star Wars trilogy planned, which include movies directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Filoni. These movies are currently scheduled to be released in May and December 2026, as well as December 2027.

Skeleton Crew: Another series connected to The Mandalorian

In the meantime, fans of Star Wars and The Mandalorian are waiting for the release of a new series “Skeleton Crew,” which also connects with the events of Return of the Jedi (1983). The series will star Jude Law in an undisclosed role.

The story will follow four kids who go on an adventure to get back home after getting lost in the galaxy. Their journey starts when they make a discovery on their home planet. It was developed by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, and has Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni as executive producers. The release of the series is planned for 2024.
