According to Deadline, Ryan Gosling is set to lead an untitled event film for Universal Pictures from Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the duo known collectively as Daniels.

The project remains largely under wraps, though it is expected to begin production in Los Angeles later this summer, signaling an early push on what the studio is positioning as a major theatrical release.

A High-Profile Pairing After ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’

The announcement brings Gosling into orbit with the authors behind “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” the multiverse drama that became a cultural and awards-season force, ultimately winning multiple Academy Awards including Best Picture. The Daniels built a reputation for blending genre spectacle with character-driven storytelling, and their next move has been closely watched across the industry.

While plot details for the Universal project have not been disclosed, its “event film” label suggests a scale and ambition aligned with the studio’s broader theatrical strategy. For Gosling, the role continues a run of high-visibility projects that balance commercial appeal with filmmaker-driven material.

Gosling recently starred in “Project Hail Mary,” a science fiction adaptation directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The picture follows Ryland Grace, a scientist who awakens alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory, only to uncover a mission tied to saving Earth from a catastrophic cosmic threat. The narrative unfolds across timelines, gradually revealing both the scale of the crisis and the personal stakes of his journey.

The production leaned heavily on practical filming techniques, including physical creature work for the alien character Rocky, paired with visual effects enhancements. The result was a hybrid approach that emphasized performance and tactile detail over fully digital environments, a choice that drew attention in coverage of the movie’s release.

Commercially, “Project Hail Mary” opened strongly, becoming one of the year’s top earners to date and marking a notable success for Amazon MGM Studios. Its reception further solidified Gosling’s position as a leading figure in original, non-franchise filmmaking, even as studios continue to prioritize established intellectual property.

With the Daniels now preparing their follow-up to “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Gosling’s involvement adds immediate star power to a project already defined by curiosity. For now, Universal is keeping specifics tightly guarded, but the combination of talent suggests a production that will command attention as it moves toward cameras later this year.
