The concept was explored during the development of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with Holland revealing that Marvel considered nightmare sequences where Peter would wake up as the terrifying Man-Spider before ultimately moving away from the idea.
“We explored the nightmare sequences of him waking up as the Man-Spider and very quickly we were like, ‘we do want children to enjoy this movie as well’”, he explained. The idea was not meant to permanently transform Peter Parker, but rather to explore his fears and the possibility of his own abilities becoming something uncontrollable.

In Marvel Comics, Man-Spider represents one of Peter Parker’s most disturbing transformations, showing what happens when the line between hero and creature begins to disappear.
Unlike the traditional Spider-Man identity built around responsibility and humanity, this version focuses on mutation, instinct and the fear of losing control over the powers that define him.
Had Marvel moved forward with the concept, Spider-Man: Brand New Day could have adopted a more horror-driven tone, exploring Peter’s relationship with his abilities from a completely different perspective.
