The next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is moving closer to reality as Joe and Anthony Russo prepare to return for Avengers: Secret Wars. The directing duo, responsible for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, revealed that production preparations for the highly anticipated multiverse event are already underway, with filming expected to begin soon as Marvel continues building toward the conclusion of its Multiverse Saga.

When will Avengers: Secret Wars begin production?

The Russo Brothers have confirmed that production on Avengers: Secret Wars will begin very soon, although Marvel Studios has not announced an exact filming date yet.

During an interview with Collider, Anthony Russo revealed that the team is already preparing for the next Avengers installment while finishing work on Avengers: Doomsday. When asked about the start of filming, he simply replied: “Soon. So soon it makes us sweat a little bit”.

The update comes as Joe and Anthony Russo enter one of the busiest periods of their Marvel careers. The directing duo is currently completing post-production on Avengers: Doomsday, including final touches involving the score, sound mixing and other finishing elements, while simultaneously beginning preparations for Secret Wars.

Anthony described the overlap as a challenging but exciting moment, with both massive MCU projects moving forward almost back-to-back. Although Marvel has not revealed a specific production schedule, previous reports indicated that Avengers: Secret Wars was expected to begin filming around summer 2026.

The movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027, following Avengers: Doomsday, which will serve as the first part of the two-film event.

The decision to move quickly from Doomsday into Secret Wars reflects Marvel Studios’ strategy of making the Avengers films the centerpiece of the Multiverse Saga’s conclusion.

Kevin Feige has explained that the studio intentionally avoided overcrowding the schedule between the two movies, choosing instead to focus resources on making both projects as impactful as possible.
