Well, the negotiations to bring about Mamma Mia 3 are becoming stronger, and after Meryl Streep mentioned that it is in development, one of the most popular actresses confirmed that the new film is a fact.
Christine Baranski, who plays Tanya and is a member of the fictional group Donna and the Dynamos, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and confessed, “We’ll all be on some fabulous Greek or Croatian island having a blast, I hope”.
This means that the trio of friends could return along with Amanda Seyfried as Sophie and the main men in her life. The second installment bid farewell to Donna, so it’s not entirely clear what a new film could be about.
What will Mamma Mia 3 be about?
Mamma Mia has established itself as a cult classic, especially among musical enthusiasts, and its sequel has performed just as well as its first film which was released in 2008. Therefore, it was to be expected that a new one would come.
It is still unknown what the third film would be about, but Meryl Streep has spoken about it and her possible involvement. During an interview, the iconic Oscar-winning actress joked about it and said:

“I’m open to anything. I’d have to schedule a consultation to check my knees before filming, but if there’s an idea that excites me, I’m totally in. I told Judy (Craymer, the film’s producer) that if she could find a way to reincarnate Donna, I’d be up for it. Or it could be like one of those soap operas where Donna returns and reveals that it was actually her twin sister who died…”
Theories have been circulating ever since the news was announced, and fans believe it could involve Donna’s legacy, as we might get to know the baby that Sophie had with Sky and what has happened to the hotel they restored.

I hate to say it because I would do Mamma Mia 3 for free—of course I would—but that’s not the business we’re in. What’s fair is fair, and I feel like a third film is going to come down to something silly whether Universal wants to pay the money or not”.
