Ryan Gosling’s path to becoming Marvel’s next Ghost Rider started with an idea of his own. Kevin Feige revealed that the actor was the one who brought the project to Marvel Studios, with a specific vision for the Spirit of Vengeance that helped convince director Shawn Levy and move the movie forward.

The revelation adds a different layer to one of the MCU’s most anticipated character returns, showing that the actor’s connection to Ghost Rider goes beyond simply taking on a superhero role. As Marvel prepares to introduce a new version of the iconic antihero, the actor’s creative involvement has become one of the most intriguing parts of the project’s origin story.

The Marvel Studios president explained that the project did not begin as a traditional studio-driven idea searching for a star. Instead, Gosling approached Marvel with his own concept for the Spirit of Vengeance, showing a personal interest in the character and a clear creative direction for how the story could be adapted.

According to Feige, Gosling’s pitch was strong enough to bring Shawn Levy into the conversation. The actor first shared his idea with the filmmaker, who responded positively, and together they presented the concept to Marvel Studios.

Feige described Gosling as the person who had “the vision” behind the project’s origins, highlighting the actor’s involvement beyond simply taking on the lead role. He said:

It was Gosling who had the vision… It was Gosling who had the pitch that won over Shawn, that had them come and pitch us this idea, which led to us on stage today”.

The revelation adds a different perspective to Marvel’s process of developing new characters and franchises. While many superhero projects begin with studio planning and later attach actors, Ghost Rider moved forward after Gosling helped shape the foundation of the idea.

Feige also noted that Gosling approached Marvel with inspiration from specific comic book material, although details about which version of Ghost Rider will appear have not been fully revealed.

The actor’s connection with Ghost Rider has been building for years. Before Marvel officially confirmed the project, the actor had publicly expressed interest in playing the character, becoming one of the fan-favorite choices for a new interpretation of Johnny Blaze or another version of the supernatural hero.
