Although “The Watchers” arrived on the big screen a few months ago, it recently made its major debut on HBO’s catalog, and the horror thriller directed by Ishana Shyamalan has managed to capture the attention of thousands of viewers.

The disturbing and fantastical story, which has been starred by Dakota Fanning, explores themes such as surveillance, privacy and perception of reality, using a suspenseful and mysterious narrative.

The visual style and direction aim to immerse the viewer in the emotional experience and the challenges faced. Therefore, it is no surprise that this week it has become the number one movie worldwide.

Is The Watchers based on a true story?

The Watchers” is indeed a compelling film, but it’s not based on a true story. It is a work of fiction, and while it might draw inspiration from real-life themes or events, the specific plot and characters are created for the story.

The story follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive and pristine forest in western Ireland. After finding shelter, she becomes trapped with three strangers, haunted each night by mysterious creatures.

The title is an adaptation of a popular novel of the same name, written by A.M. Shine. The screenplay for the cinematic horror thriller, which now shines in Max‘s global catalog, was written by the director herself.

Through the interactions between the characters trapped in the forest, the book published in May 2022 explores human dynamics, cooperation, distrust and survival in extreme circumstances.
