Movies centered on the LGBTQ+ community are essential to our culture, and when they are well-crafted, they also provide immense enjoyment. This is the case for “Am I Ok?,” which premiered on Max 48 hours ago and has already become the second most-watched film worldwide.

The title had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2022, where Max acquired the rights to release it on its platform two years later. It was directed by Tig Notaro, the iconic stand-up comedian, in her tenth work as a filmmaker.

The script was penned by Lauren Pomerantz, renowned for writing 825 episodes of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Another interesting fact is that Will Ferrell was among the producers of this title.

‘Am I Ok?’ occupies the Top 2 on Max worldwide

Dakota Johnson has a gift for turning everything she touches to gold, so it’s no surprise that “Am I Ok?” is currently ranking #2 on Max worldwide.

Amazingly, it has swiftly surpassed “The Exorcist: Believer,” one of the solid hits in the catalog. At the moment, it’s in a neck-and-neck competition for the top spot on the chart against “Dune 2,” which has held that position since May 21.

The film centers on Lucy and Jane, who have been best friends their whole lives. Only when Lucy embarks on a personal journey will she face a test of their friendship and her sense of self, on a path she may not be entirely prepared to take.

Dakota Johnson and Sonoya Mizuno portray Lucy and Jane, respectively. They are joined by an outstanding cast including Jermaine Fowler, Kiersey Clemons, Molly Gordon, Tig Notaro herself, and others.

Critics have widely praised the production, especially Dakota Johnson’s performance and the themes it explores, with the most well-treated being coming out as a lesbian woman in adulthood.
