Materialists — 2024

Johnson has joined the cast of Celine Song‘s new play, Materialists, where she will share the screen with Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. The romantic comedy will be set in New York and directed by the Oscar-nominated filmmaker responsible for Past Lives.

The story follows a high-level matchmaker who becomes involved with a wealthy man but still harbors feelings for the broke actor/waiter she left behind. The names of the roles they will play are not yet known, but Song will also be the scriptwriter in charge.

Cult Following — TBA

Cult Following is another of the many projects that have yet to come to fruition and seems to have been forgotten, but in 2020, it was confirmed that Dakota Johnson had joined Riley Keough as the lead actors and executive producers of the drama.

Platform One Media acquired the rights to adapt the upcoming memoir by Bexy Cameron. During an interview with Deadline, Katie O’Connell Marsh, president and CEO of the company, confessed:

“We were thrilled that TeaTime brought us Bexy’s incredible story. It’s rare to find such pure and compelling writing, and this project is an incredible opportunity to bring to life a truly unique journey with two of the most talented actors working today, and the fact that Dakota and Riley have been best friends since they were 15 is incredibly exciting chemistry to bring to the screen“.

The project is based on the book written by Cameron, whose story chronicles her life while recounting her upbringing in the notorious Children of God cult. After emancipating herself at the age of 16 and building a life outside the cult, she embarks on a road trip with a close friend to investigate and document contemporary cults.

Cameron will be portrayed by Dakota, while the accompanying friend will be brought to life by Keough, who recently starred in Daisy Jones and the Six for Prime Video alongside Sam Claflin, Camila Morrone, Suki Waterhouse and other prominent actors.

Daddio – tba (coming this Summer)

Daddio is a drama directed and written by Christy Hall in her directorial debut, with Dakota set to bring Girlie, one of the main characters, to life. Sean Penn plays Clark, a taxi driver who co-stars in the story.

The emotional narrative not only invites reflection for its future audience but follows a woman traveling in a taxi from JFK airport, engaging in a conversation with the taxi driver about significant relationships in their lives.

Shannon Gannon portrays a driver and Marcos A. Gonzalez is a taxi attendant. So far, only these four actors have been credited in the cast, and everything indicates that they will be the only ones for the time being.

Originally conceived as a stage play, it eventually made its way to the big screen, where it has not yet been released. The movie is set to be released this summer, but an exact date has not been confirmed yet.

Rodeo Queens — TBA

In 2020, it was confirmed that Johnson would be part of the cast of the series Rodeo Queens for Amazon, which would be exclusively available on Prime Video. Christy Hall would be responsible for creating the new program and serving as the showrunner.

The episodes will be directed by Carrie Brownstein, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the story will be presented in the style of a mockumentary, following the rivalry among several girls during the rodeo queen competition.

In other words, the titleholder who serves as the official face of one of the many local rodeos held throughout the state of Texas, according to Fotogramas. There are still not many details available about the project itself or when it will be released.

Madame Web — February 16, 2024

Madame Web is one of Dakota’s upcoming major projects, where she will not only be the protagonist but will also bring the character to the big screen for the first time. The film, directed by S.J. Clarkson, is a Spider-Man spin-off.

The actress portraying Cassandra Webb will be joined by big stars such as Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Zosia Mamet, Kerry Bishé, Mike Epps and Adam Scott, among others.

The story follows the life of a Manhattan paramedic who may possess clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations from her past, she forms a connection with three young women destined to have powerful futures… if they can survive a deadly present.

Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Claire Parker and the director himself are the ones responsible for writing the screenplay of the film, which will make its debut on the big screen on Friday, February 16 of this year, joining the vast universe created by Marvel Studios.
