We Were the Lucky Ones is Hulu‘s new historical drama that has brought together two of the industry’s most talented and well-known young stars, Joey King (The Act) and Logan Lerman (Hunters), for its first season.

The series is an adaptation of Georgia Hunter‘s eponymous book and was created by Erica Lipez (Bates Motel, Julia, and The Morning Show). The plot is inspired by the true story at the beginning of World War II.

Each of the episodes is inspired by a family of siblings with the surname Kurc, who seek to survive the Holocaust. The events of the novel are representations of the author’s family experiences.

“Our production designer and our team built a huge backlot in Bucharest that was a maze of buildings that became three different cities in Poland. The show goes to many places”.
