One of the most beloved Disney+ TV film series has returned! “Descendants: The Rise of Red” was released on July 12 and rapidly became a worldwide trend on the platform, according to FlixPatrol.

This time, Auradon opens its doors to Princess Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, the iconic villainess from “Alice in Wonderland”! This will not only cause chaos in the kingdom but also disrupt the original timeline of the universe.

While fans are excited about this new installment, it’s all a bit bittersweet as it reminds us of Cameron Boyce, who played the beloved Carlos in the first three films. What happens to his character in “Descendants 4”?

What is Carlos status in ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red?

First of all, it’s worth noting that the only returning lead character is that of China Anne McClain, who has been left in charge of Auradon since Mal, Ben, Evie, and Jay have left the kingdom to make alliances with others.

Honoring Mal and Ben’s kindness in giving her a second chance, Uma asks Fairy Godmother, the president of Auradon Prep, to invite Princess Red from Wonderland to the institution. At first, she refuses, but Uma convinces her as a way to honor Carlos, and the two share a tearful moment as the invitation is sent.

This scene is particularly heartbreaking because Cameron Boyce was one of the most beloved actors to come out of Disney, and everyone who worked with him adored him deeply.

In “Descendants: The Rise of Red,” it is confirmed that Carlos has passed away, though the cause is not explained. A portrait of him hangs on one of the university’s walls, and, looking at it, Uma and Fairy Godmother are convinced to open the gates of Auradon again.

This tribute comes at a significant time, close to the anniversary of Boyce’s death on July 6. In fact, The Cameron Boyce Foundation held its third annual gala on July 2, celebrating his legacy with friends and family.
