“The First Omen” ranks among the best horror movies of 2024 so far, despite premiering in theaters just two months ago. Fans of the genre eagerly anticipated its arrival on Disney+, where it is now the second most-watched movie worldwide.

This film is the fifth installment in “The Omen” franchise, serving as a prequel to its first release. It marks the return of the universe created by Richard Donner to the big screen, 33 years after the last installment, 1991’s “Omen IV: The Awakening.”

The production has received very positive reviews from both critics and audiences, who have praised it as the best nun-themed horror movie in a long time and a standout in its universe.

‘The First Omen’ ranks Top 2 on Disney+ worldwide

“The First Omen” is one of those movies where you have to close your eyes or look away from the screen, not only because it is utterly scary but also quite gruesome. In short, it embodies everything a horror film should be. It’s no surprise that it is currently occupying the Top 2 on Disney+ worldwide.

Remarkably, it is the only horror title on the streaming service ranking so high. It has already dethroned “Luca” and “Inside Out” from their usual #2 and #3 spots. However, it seems unlikely to surpass “Moana,” which has been the most-watched movie globally for over a month and has recently seen a rise in viewership due to the new trailer of its sequel.

The story follows Margaret, a young American woman sent to Rome in the 1970s to work and serve in a church. Upon her arrival, she finds herself amidst a social and labor revolution, and the convent becomes a sanctuary. But not for long.

She is played by Nell Tiger Free, known for her role as Leanne Grayson in the “Servant” series. Free is accompanied by stellar performances from Ralph Ineson, Sonia Braga, Tawfeek Barhom, and Maria Caballero, among others.

Without giving away any spoilers, we can tell you that the nature of the ending suggests there will be more movies to come in “The Omen” franchise. We will keep you updated with any new information about it.
