The 2024 Summer Olympics are already here! This year, the multi-sport event is taking place in France, with Paris as the main host city and events also held in 16 other cities across Metropolitan France, plus one venue in Tahiti, French Polynesia.

While sports are the main focus, the entertainment world is also prominently featured. This includes not only the Opening Ceremony performances by Celine Dion and Lady Gaga but also the presence of various celebrities.

And it’s not just the A-list stars competing in sports. This year, the most talked-about appearance is Snoop Dogg, who will be one of the torchbearers. Why is he chosen for this special role?

Firstly, Snoop Dogg’s role extends beyond merely carrying the torch. According to NBC Olympics, he will also work as a special correspondent for NBC and Peacock throughout the Games. The star will attend competitions, interact with athletes and their families, and explore city landmarks.

Moreover, Snoop Dogg is a passionate sports fan, arguably one of the most devoted in the hip-hop industry. Not only does he support his hometown teams, but he is also a certified football coach. Furthermore, he operates a youth football league in Los Angeles and has joined an investment group to help buy the NHL’s Ottawa Senators. His deep respect for sports makes him a fitting choice for this honor.

Snoop Dogg has expressed great emotion upon receiving the news. In a recent interview with sportscaster Mike Tirico and NBC Olympics Production president Molly Solomon, he said, “I’m going to show you why they made me the man to do it. I’m going to put all of my resources and energy around it with peace, love, and harmony. That’s what the Olympics is all about. I feel like that’s why they chose me. That’s what I represent.”

The rapper also shared that since watching Muhammad Ali light the cauldron at the 1996 Games, carrying the torch has been a dream he never thought could come true. “This is my own version of it,” he stated. “I don’t want to get too emotional, but I know that this is special.”
