During a GQ Friendship Quiz segment promoting their new picture “The Drama,” Robert Pattinson and Zendaya tested how well they know each other, leading to a brief but revealing return to the actor’s “Twilight” past.

When asked to identify Pattinson’s favorite installment in the saga, Zendaya guessed the original film, but the actor offered a different answer.

A Surprising Favorite From the ‘Twilight’ Era

Pattinson pointed instead to “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” the second entry in the franchise that followed the breakout success of “Twilight.” Released in 2009 and directed by Chris Weitz, the sequel shifts focus away from Edward Cullen as Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, navigates his sudden departure and grows closer to Jacob Black, portrayed by Taylor Lautner.

The choice is ironic given Pattinson’s limited presence in the film. Faithful to Stephenie Meyer’s novel, “New Moon” sidelines Edward for much of its runtime after he leaves Bella in an attempt to protect her. The character appears only intermittently, often as a manifestation of Bella’s imagination during moments of distress.

That reduced screen time was not accidental. Pattinson has previously indicated he fought to keep Edward largely absent, aligning the movie more closely with the source material’s structure. The approach allowed the story to foreground Bella’s emotional state and expand Jacob’s role, reshaping the dynamic that defined the first title.

“New Moon” went on to become a major commercial success despite mixed critical reception, earning more than $700 million worldwide and setting several box office records upon release. It remains one of the franchise’s most pivotal chapters, laying the groundwork for the central love triangle that carried through subsequent installments.

The GQ Friendship Quiz was part of Pattinson and Zendaya’s promotional efforts for “The Drama,” a romantic comedy-drama directed by Kristoffer Borgli. The film, which premiered opened in U.S. theaters yesterday, follows an engaged couple confronting hidden truths in the days leading up to their wedding.
