The actress earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Carol Sturka in Apple TV+’s “Pluribus,” adding another milestone to a television career that many viewers and critics have argued deserved greater recognition long before now.

According to the Television Academy’s list of nominees, announced ahead of the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, Seehorn joins this year’s field after leading Vince Gilligan‘s acclaimed science fiction drama through its first season. The ceremony is scheduled for September 14, with Mariska Hargitay hosting the event in Los Angeles.

A New Emmy Opportunity After Years of Awards Frustration

For many television fans, the nomination carries significance beyond “Pluribus” itself. During the six-season run of “Better Call Saul,” Seehorn’s portrayal of Kim Wexler became one of the medium’s most celebrated performances, yet she received only two Emmy nominations and never took home the award despite widespread acclaim.

That history turned her into one of the most frequently cited examples of an actor overlooked by the Television Academy. Entertainment publications, critics, and online fan communities repeatedly questioned why her work, particularly during the later seasons of “Better Call Saul,” failed to receive more recognition while the series itself finished its run with 53 Emmy nominations and no wins.

Pluribus has given Seehorn a fresh opportunity to reshape that awards narrative. Created by Vince Gilligan, the post-apocalyptic science fiction title stars her as novelist Carol Sturka, one of the few people immune to an alien virus that transforms humanity into a peaceful collective consciousness. The show earned strong reviews following its debut, with critics consistently highlighting Seehorn’s performance as one of its greatest strengths.

The nomination also continues a remarkable awards run for the actress. Before Emmy voting, Seehorn had already collected major honors for “Pluribus,” including Golden Globe and Critics Choice victories for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Those wins have helped position her as one of the leading contenders heading into September, when she will once again have the opportunity to claim the Emmy that many believe has eluded her for years.
