Speaking to ComicBook, Simmons addressed the speculation while promoting his upcoming MGM+ series “The Westies,” making it clear that his name has been attached to the film without any basis.
J.K. Simmons Puts the Spider-Man Speculation to Rest
Ever since “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” began expanding its cast, Marvel fans have been busy trying to predict which familiar faces might return alongside Tom Holland. One name that repeatedly surfaced was J.K. Simmons, whose portrayal of Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson has become one of the most beloved pieces of “Spider-Man” casting across multiple generations of films.

Asked directly about reports linking him to the upcoming sequel, Simmons didn’t leave room for interpretation. “Not in it, dude. I don’t know who on the internet decided that that was fact, but I ain’t in it.” With that brief response, the Oscar winner dismissed months of online speculation that had spread across fan communities.
Simmons first brought Jameson to life in Sam Raimi‘s “Spider-Man” trilogy, where his loud, relentless campaign against Spider-Man turned the newspaper editor into one of the franchise’s standout supporting characters. His return in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” surprised audiences in 2019, and he later appeared again in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” making him one of the few actors to carry the same Marvel role across different cinematic continuities.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” marks a fresh chapter for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker following the events of “No Way Home,” with the story focusing on a Spider-Man who now operates anonymously after Doctor Strange’s memory-altering spell erased Peter Parker from the world’s memory. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film features Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and Michael Mando, with its theatrical release scheduled for July 31.
