As the Marvel Cinematic Universe prepares its next massive crossover,Lewis Pullman is suggesting that the scale of “Avengers: Doomsday” will not come at the expense of character depth.

In an interview with Esquire, the actor, who plays the mysterious and immensely powerful Bob Reynolds, also known as Sentry, spoke about returning to the sprawling superhero franchise and why the film’s enormous ensemble is designed to showcase meaningful interactions rather than fleeting cameos.

Lewis Pullman on the Challenge of Marvel’s Massive Crossover Cast

For a picture packed with heroes from across Marvel’s universe, Pullman believes the creative team is determined to avoid turning the story into a parade of brief appearances. Reflecting on the direction set by directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, he said the goal is to give each character a moment to stand out. “Every character has their moment that builds the dimensions of them,” Pullman explained, adding that the filmmakers “do not want anyone just sitting in the background.”

That approach is particularly notable given the scale of the production. The film brings together Avengers veterans, Wakandan allies, members of the Fantastic Four, and even characters from the X-Men universe, all facing off against a new central villain played by Robert Downey Jr.. Pullman suggested that rather than overwhelming the narrative, the large cast opens the door to unexpected character combinations. “There’s a lot of really exciting pair-ups that happen,” he said, hinting that fans will finally see some long imagined team ups on screen.

Pullman also described the movie’s ambitions in broader storytelling terms. In his view, the superhero epic draws from the kind of larger than life figures that have shaped myths and legends for centuries. “It’s going back to the serum of the human archetypes that our art is built off of,” he stated, suggesting that the title aims to channel that sense of grand storytelling even within the modern blockbuster format.

Still, he acknowledged that discussing a Marvel project publicly requires a careful balance. With the studio known for tightly guarding its secrets, Pullman joked about the peculiar challenge of promoting a picture while revealing as little as possible. “Talking about Marvel is always such a funny dance of saying nothing while still words are coming out of your mouth,” he added.

In “Avengers: Doomsday,” Lewis Pullman reprises his role as Bob Reynolds/Sentry/Void, the troubled figure introduced in “Thunderbolts. That film assembled a volatile team of antiheroes led by characters played by Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour, placing Pullman’s character at the center of a story that explored trauma, identity, and the dangers of unchecked power.

The performance helped establish Sentry as one of the MCU’s most unpredictable figures, setting the stage for Pullman’s return in a much larger ensemble while reinforcing his belief that even in Marvel’s biggest crossovers, every character has a meaningful role to play.
