After Jim Carrey’s appearance at the César Awards in Paris reignited online chatter about his changing look, one familiar voice is pushing back. Speaking to PEOPLE, Jenny McCarthy addressed the speculation directly while attending the iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 26.

Jenny McCarthy Dismisses Viral Theories Around Jim Carrey

McCarthy, who dated Carrey from 2005 to 2010, made it clear there was no mystery behind the actor’s identity at the French ceremony. “It was definitely Jim Carrey,” she said, cutting through theories that suggested otherwise after his appearance accepting an honorary award.

What stood out to her had little to do with the online fixation on his face. “He looked very happy at that award show. And I was happy for him,” she shared, recalling her immediate reaction upon seeing him. “Oh wow, Jim looks really happy.”

That sentiment was echoed by her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, who was by her side during the interview and pointed to the broader disconnect between public reaction and what was actually visible. “You know, that’s the part that, sadly, people miss. We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked,” he said.

Carrey’s appearance at the ceremony marked a rare public outing for the actor, who has largely stepped away from Hollywood in favor of a quieter lifestyle centered on painting and personal pursuits. His recent work has been limited, with the role of Dr. Robotnik in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” films serving as his last major screen performance.
