One of Apple TV+’s most successful series of this year is Palm Royale, which, according to FlixPatrol, is currently the third most-watched show on the platform worldwide. And, actually, it hasn’t left the Top 10 since its release back in March. So, it’s understandable that fans are clamoring for a second season, despite the fact that the show is still airing.
The series is based on the 2018 novel Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel, and it is set in 1969. It follows a former beauty pageant contestant Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig), who wants to be part of the Palm Beach high society but she soon realizes that the elite don’t accept outsiders very easily. Despite being married to the heir (Josh Lucas) to the Dellacorte fortune, these women won’t let her be part of their circle. However, if Maxine can’t join them, she will try to tear them down.
Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, Laura Dern, Ricky Martin, Julia Duffy and Kaia Gerber are all part of the ensemble cast. While there are two episodes left in this season, Bibb, who plays Dinah in the drama, has spoken about the possibility of a second installment. Here’s what the actress says.
Bibb says that the writers room “is open” for more of Palm Royale
In an interview with Collider, Bibb explained the status of a second season of Palm Royale. “There’s a writers’ room that’s open, and we’ll see. Apple doesn’t okay anything until they see numbers, but I’ve heard rumblings,” she told the outlet.
For her, the show is “exciting” and Abe Sylvia, creator of the series, “really knows how to nurture a creative spirit. From the writers’ room to the actors, he’s a very generous person. I think if we get a Season 2, it’s gonna be pretty wild.”
Meanwhile, Laura Dern, who is also a producer on the show, also expressed in an interview with T&C an interest in making a season 2. “I know with Mike White, when we were developing Enlightened, that was always a gorgeous question to ask: How can something stand on its own, and be cinematic and true, and then how can you just also start all over again?“
“As producers, that’s been I think a really fun thing to learn about in story. And [writer] Abe [Sylvia]’s done a brilliant job and a bold job at doing that,” she added. Another member of the cast that expressed an interest in coming back was Ricky Martin.
So, it seems like the cast and crew are game for a second season. However, an official announcement for a renewal will come, probably, after the Season 2 finale, which is expected for May 8, 2024.
