After becoming the most-watched series in Apple TV history, Vince Gilligan‘s ambitious science fiction drama is now moving through a crucial stage of development ahead of its return.

In a recent interview with Variety, executive producer Gordon Smith offered a glimpse into where work on Season 2 currently stands.

‘Pluribus’ Season 2 Has Reached a Key Stage in Development

Fans eager for news on Pluribus received one of the clearest updates yet this week. Speaking about the status of the new installment, Smith said the writers are currently focused on mapping out upcoming episodes, noting that the team is “about midway through Season 2” as they continue developing the story.

The update arrives several months after the first part concluded with Carol Sturka, played by Rhea Seehorn, making a dramatic alliance with fellow survivor Manousos Oviedo following the arrival of an atomic bomb.

While progress is underway, Smith indicated that the process remains demanding. “We are working as hard as we can and as fast as we can, which isn’t very fast, but it is the best we can do,” he said.

As for cameras rolling again, there is still no official start date. Smith expressed hope that production could resume “by the end of this year or early next year,” offering the strongest indication yet of when filming may begin.

Created by Vince Gilligan, the series follows novelist Sturka, one of only a handful of people immune to an event known as the Joining, which turned most of humanity into a peaceful hive mind. Season 1 earned widespread acclaim for its unusual premise, with Seehorn’s performance drawing particular attention as the show established itself as one of Apple TV’s biggest successes.
