Kristen Wiig is returning to sunny Palm Beach as Apple TV+ renewed “Palm Royale” for a second season. The series has become one of the platform’s most successful shows this year, currently ranking as the third most-watched show on the platform worldwide according to FlixPatrol.

Since its release in March, the series has consistently remained in the Top 10, and it currently ranks at the sixth most watched show this year. The show is loosely based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel “Mr. and Mrs. American Pie.” Set in the 1960s, it follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) as she tries to break into Palm Beach high society with her fabulous ensembles, accessories, and quick wit.

“We are so thrilled to hear about season two,” says executive producer Laura Dern, according to Deadline. “Jayme and I (with Jaywalker Pictures) have been dreaming up this project for so long, hoping audiences would have delicious fun with the radical ride that is the world of ‘Palm Royale.’ We all can’t wait to get started!”

Palm Royale Season 2 details: What we know so far

Of course, with the renewal news, fans might want to know who is coming back to the comedy. However, there’s still no word on that. The Season 1 ensemble cast includes Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, Julia Duffy, and Kaia Gerber, with guest stars Bruce Dern and Carol Burnett.

Another question is the plot for the second season, especially as the series ended on a cliffhanger with bartender and pool boy Robert Diaz (Martin) getting unexpectedly shot, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the resolution. Creator Abe Sylvia teased TODAY.com, “This is a classic soap opera cliffhanger,” hinting at more drama to come.

Before the Season 2 renewal announcement, Sylvia mentioned that the show was always intended to be an ongoing series, adding that it has a “rabid and excited fan base” eager for more. Sylvia also serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner.

Other executive producers include Laura Dern, Kristen Wiig, Jayme Lemons for Jaywalker Pictures, Katie O’Connell Marsh, Tate Taylor, and John Norris for Wyolah Films, Sharr White, Sheri Holman, and Boat Rocker.
