“The Acolyte” is one of the latest major additions to the Disney+ catalog that is part of the Star Wars franchise. The show, which became No. 1 worldwide, stars Amandla Stenberg (The Darkest Minds) and other big stars.
The story is set in the era of the High Republic, a period of time hundreds of years before the events of the original movies. It has been relatively unexplored in the saga’s canon, until now…
After the mystery thriller exploring the darkest aspects of the Force had its big debut, many fans have been wondering if the series will have a second season or if it has been canceled.
Has ‘The Acolyte’ been cancelled?
After several months of speculation and rumors suggesting the cancellation of “The Acolyte“, we now know what lies ahead for the TV series. Disney has canceled it, and there will be no second season.
Despite generating significant buzz on social media and some characters going viral, such as Manny Jacinto’s, it failed to truly connect with fans and achieve the viewership of other projects.
The show had a strong premiere with 4.8 million views on its first day on the service, earning a spot in the Top 10 for a while and also ranking No. 7 on Nielsen’s list of the 10 most-watched original series.
However, this was not enough, as the platform decided to bid farewell to the series starring Amandla Stenberg as Mae Aniseya. It wouldn’t be the first time the service cancels productions of this nature.
Additionally, Deadline reported that the title only accumulated 335 million minutes, marking the lowest number for a Star Wars show finale. Thus, its decline in viewership signified the end of the drama.
