Joo-hwan Kim (Bloodhounds, Koalla and The Divine Fury) is behind the direction and story of one of Netflix‘s most-watched movies on the platform, both globally and in the United States, which was recently added: Officer Black Belt.
The new action comedy that mixes a lot of drama with high-voltage scenes follows a martial arts expert who always helps those in need as he teams up with a parole officer to combat and prevent crime.
The South Korean production, which starred figures like Kim Woo-bin and Kim Seong-gyoon, arrived in the catalog with high expectations and seems to have met them all, as it has secured the third spot in the Top 10.
Will Officer Black Belt have a sequel on Netflix?
Despite “Officer Black Belt” being added to the streaming giant on September 14, it has already performed exceptionally well in terms of views, ranking among the most-watched films of the month, which is not easy.
This means that Netflix might consider the title when deciding which productions to continue on screen. However, the comedy’s ending has wrapped up relatively well, without the need for a sequel.
Spoiler Alert! – The last frame we see on screen shows the main character, Jung-do, as a permanent martial arts officer, and Sun-min rushing to stop another ex-convict who wants to cause harm.
During a press conference, Joo-hwan Kim (also known as Jason Kim) spoke about the story itself and told The Korea Times what the goal was for bringing the project to life. There he said:
“Compassion is disappearing from the world. We made this film to show that there are people doing good for others. I hope viewers enjoy this work filled with humour, action and thrills during the Chuseok season“.
