Universal is one of the top-tier distribution companies in the horror industry. From “Dawn of the Dead” to “Abigail,” it has overseen the domestic and global sales of many of the best genre movies from the last two decades.
Since Blumhouse and Atomic Monster began to solidify their names in the business, Universal partnered with them to distribute their titles worldwide. Together, the trio consistently make a significant impact on the box office.
Just a few hours ago, they announced the exact release dates of their most important horror movies of 2025. Here, check out the details.
The Black Phone 2 – October 17, 2025
Initially slated for release on June 27 next year, “The Black Phone 2” has been pushed forward four months. Apparently, we will have to wait a little longer for Ethan Hawke to return as the masked killer on the big screen.
Although the plot remains under wraps, Scott Derrickson has already confirmed that “The Black Phone 2” will be a direct sequel to the first installment. There has been a lot of excitement for this project, as Derrickson and Hawke previously collaborated on “Sinister,” the 2012 horror film regarded by many as the best of all time.
Along with the “Dead Poets Society” actor, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora are set to reprise their roles.
M3GAN 2.0 – June 27, 2025
Initially, “M3GAN 2.0” was set to be released on May 16 next year, but now, Universal Pictures has declared that it will come out on June 27. The artificially intelligent doll will also have to hold still while James Wan and Blumhouse reorganize their agendas and most important tasks.
The minds behind contemporary horror blockbusters haven’t provided any plot updates on this production. Nevertheless, as the ending of the first movie suggested, expect Megan to return like Terminator to extend her evilness in more gruesome and morbid ways.
Like with “The Black Phone,” the original cast is also set to return for this sequel. Allison Williams and Violet McGraw have already signed their contracts to come back.
Five Night at Freddy’s 2 – December 5, 2025
Unlike the two movies just mentioned, “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” has not been delayed. Universal has just announced its release date to be December 5 next year, which has quite contented the fans who were eagerly expecting the announcement.
Scott Cawthon will bring his game franchise to the big screen for the second time, and it’s quite uncertain which storyline he will choose to follow. He could stick to the lore from the games, the one from the books, or continue with an original narrative that mixes elements from each format, as he did with the first movie.
The latter is likely the case, as all the stars from the previous installment are set to return. Elizabeth Lail, Josh Hutcherson, and Piper Rubio will return to fight against Matthew Lillard once again in the role of William Afton.
