HBO’s “It: Welcome to Derry” has become one of the biggest surprise hits of the year, drawing strong reviews, steady buzz, and a growing fanbase as it expands the mythology of Stephen King’s iconic horror universe.
With the prequel series now racing toward its highly anticipated final episode this Sunday, viewers have been praising everything from its period setting to Bill Skarsgård’s chilling return as Pennywise. And just as excitement peaks around the show, director Andy Muschietti has reignited interest in another long-discussed project: his dream of creating a massive, never-before-seen extended cut combining both “IT” movies.
Muschietti Says the Supercut Is “Still a Big Dream of Mine”
In a new Ask-Me-Anything chat on Reddit this week, Andy Muschietti surprised fans by confirming that he still hopes to assemble a massive extended cut that blends “IT” and “IT: Chapter Two” into one epic feature. Though the idea was first floated back in 2019, many assumed it had quietly died as the director moved on to other projects.
Muschietti explained that the main reason the supercut hasn’t materialized is simply time — especially with the demanding production of “It: Welcome to Derry,” which he developed alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. Between directing multiple episodes and guiding the show’s creative direction, the project left little room to revisit the films.
Despite that, Muschietti made it clear the desire hasn’t gone away. In the AMA, he called the supercut “still a big dream of mine,” adding that he’s hopeful he’ll eventually find the space to finally execute it. His comment immediately reignited speculation within the fandom, especially as the series continues to deepen the lore of Pennywise and Derry.
For now, Muschietti is focused on celebrating the strong reception to “Welcome to Derry,” which has become a standout entry in the franchise. But with the show bringing renewed attention to the world he built, fans are more curious than ever whether the long-discussed, never-before-seen supercut might one day become a reality.
