As happens week after week, the Max top 10 has been refreshed, but it’s no longer Barbie holding the title for the first position. Margot Robbie‘s movie has been dethroned after several days at the top, and now the spot belongs to a DC production.
It’s about Blue Beetle, directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. Xolo Mariduena is the one responsible for bringing to life the young Mexican who discovers an alien beetle that grants him an armor with superpowers.
The film was a significant milestone in the international box office, breaking several records and surpassing the 100 million mark. This meant a lot for the DC and Warner team, as they broke a psychological barrier for numerous film productions of this kind.
Blue Beetle is the number 1 movie on Max worldwide.
Blue Beetle became the most-watched movie on Max just a few hours ago after the platform once again updated its worldwide top 10. Accordin to Flix Patrol, not only did it dethrone Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, but it claimed the top spot and caused other productions, like Gran Turismo, to move down the list.
This isn’t the first time DC has a mega-popular film on the HBO podium; quite the opposite. The captivating story of comedy, friendship, and action has won over streaming giant viewers, and many have praised the performance of the lead actor: Xolo Mariduena, who also appeared in Cobra Kai.
The 22-year-old star was joined by multiple significant figures in the industry, with some of the most prominent being singer Becky G, Bruna Marquezine, Susan Sarandon, Raoul Max Trujillo, Belissa Escobedo, Damián Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza and Harvey Guillén.
What is Blue Beetle about?
The plot follows Jaime Reyes, a teenager of Mexican descent living in El Paso, Texas. His life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers an alien artifact called the “Scarab”. This mystical beetle attaches itself to his back and grants him a technological suit that imparts superhuman abilities.
The Scarab is an advanced creation of an alien race called the Reach, and its technology is both a blessing and a curse for Jaime. The beetle provides him with powers like superhuman strength, the ability to fly and advanced weaponry, but it also has its own consciousness and can sometimes attempt to exert control over his body.
The superhero portrayed by Xolo Mariduena becomes the third character to bear the title of Blue Beetle, following Dan Garrett and Ted Kord. His story explores themes of identity, adolescence and the responsibility of possessing extraordinary powers.
