Oscar-winner Kate Winslet will star in HBO’s upcoming political satire “The Regime,” a miniseries that is set to premiere on Sunday, March 3 (9 PM ET). Apart from airing on HBO, it will be available to stream on Max (premiering at the same time).
Will Tracy, who is known for producing and writing for Succession and the film “The Menu,” serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner of the show. Oscar-nominated Stephen Frears (“The Grifters,” “The Queen”) and Jessica Hobbs (“The Crown”) direct and executive produce.
Consisting of six episodes, the series tells “the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel,” per the official synopsis. And with a star-studded cast and crew, it is poised to be one of the most talked about shows of the year.
What is ‘The Regime’ about?
The series will focus on a crumbling authoritarian regime in an European country. Winslet plays Chancellor Elena Vernham, who becomes paranoid and unstable in power. However, she must have to prove to an American US emissary that she still has “credibility” as leader of the nation.
Vernham’s only confidant is a volatile soldier, Herbert Zubak, who keeps her friends, enemies and even husband at bay. As Zubak’s influence over the chancellor grows, Vernham’s attempts to expand her power eventually result in the palace and the country fracturing around her.
