While the show remained competitive in below-the-line categories, Antony Starr‘s acclaimed portrayal of Homelander once again went unrecognized, meaning the actor finishes the series’ entire run without a single Emmy acting nomination.
Homelander’s Acclaimed Run Ends Without Emmy Recognition
The final season of “The Boys” earned nominations for Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes for “The Frenchman, The Female, And The Man Called Mother’s Milk,” Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for “Raise Him Up,” Outstanding Music Supervision and Outstanding Sound Editing for “Blood And Bone,” as well as Outstanding Stunt Coordination. Those five mentions mark the show’s final appearance in Emmy competition following the conclusion of the series.
Despite widespread praise throughout the title’s run, Starr never broke into the Emmy acting races for his performance as Homelander. Across five seasons, the New Zealand actor transformed the character from the polished public face of Vought into an increasingly unstable authoritarian whose pursuit of absolute power became the driving force behind the hit. The role evolved from a corporate-controlled celebrity to a self-proclaimed god determined to reshape the world in his own image.
Created by Eric Kripke for Prime Video and based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, “The Boys” debuted in 2019 as a satirical take on the superhero genre. The series follows a group of vigilantes led by Billy Butcher as they battle corrupt superheroes whose public image is carefully managed by the powerful Vought International. Homelander, leader of The Seven, quickly emerged as the show’s defining figure thanks to his combination of immense power and psychological instability.
Over its five-season run, “The Boys” earned critical acclaim for its performances, action sequences, visual effects, and sharp social satire. The production previously received Emmy recognition in categories including Outstanding Drama Series and several technical fields, but Starr’s central performance never translated into an acting nomination.
With the final nominations now announced, his portrayal of Homelander officially concludes as one of the most celebrated television performances to finish its run without Emmy recognition.
