According to Screen Rant, reporting on Himesh Patel‘s interview with The Direct, the actor confirmed that production has wrapped on the pilot episode, marking a significant milestone for Ryan Coogler’s long-anticipated revival of the beloved paranormal drama.

The X-Files Reboot Moves One Step Closer to Reality

After months of quiet production, Patel revealed that filming on the pilot has officially concluded. The actor, who headlines the project alongside Danielle Deadwyler, confirmed the team is now waiting to learn whether Hulu will move forward with a full series order. “If we get to do more…we’ll see where we go from there,” he said.

While Patel remained tight-lipped about the story, he did offer one important confirmation about the show’s direction. “I don’t want to say anything that’s going to get me disappeared,” he joked before stating that he and Deadwyler are portraying “completely new characters.” Rather than revisiting Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, the reboot will introduce two new FBI agents tasked with reopening a long-abandoned division dedicated to investigating unexplained phenomena.

Coogler is writing and directing the pilot, with “Legion” writer Jennifer Yale serving as showrunner. Chris Carter, who created the original The X-Files in 1993, returns as an executive producer, while the cast also includes Steve Buscemi, Amy Madigan, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel Montgrand, and Sofia Grace Clifton in guest roles.

The reboot has been years in the making. Development first surfaced in 2023 before Coogler confirmed that the series would become his next major project following “Sinners.” He has also indicated that the new version will preserve one of the franchise’s defining elements by blending standalone “monster of the week” investigations with a larger conspiracy storyline.

With filming now complete in Vancouver, the spotlight shifts to Hulu, which will decide whether the latest chapter of “The X-Files” advances beyond its pilot.
