According to an exclusive report from Deadline, “Jem and the Holograms” is heading back to the screen through a new live-action television series currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios. The project comes from Hasbro Entertainment and has enlisted Kilter Films, the production company founded by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, to help reimagine the beloved 1980s property for a new generation.
A New Chapter for an ’80s Animation Favorite
The reboot marks the latest effort to expand the “Jem and the Holograms” franchise, which first gained popularity through its animated series that aired between 1985 and 1988. Created by Christy Marx, the show followed Jerrica Benton, a record company owner who secretly transformed into pop star Jem with the help of an advanced holographic system known as Synergy.
Blending music, science-fiction, and melodrama, the original hit centered on the adventures of Jem and her band while they competed against rival groups such as The Misfits and The Stingers. The title also became known for incorporating original songs and music video sequences into nearly every episode, helping it stand out from other animated programs of the era.
The new adaptation has been in motion for several months. Hasbro Entertainment reportedly began shopping the project in late 2025, with Amazon quickly emerging as the frontrunner. Industry chatter linked Kilter Films to the series from the beginning, though it took time for negotiations to be finalized and the various agreements to be completed.
Kilter arrives with a strong track record in genre television. The company earned acclaim for HBO’s “Westworld” and later found major success with Prime Video’s “Fallout,” making its involvement one of the most notable aspects of the new project.
Additional creative details, including casting, writers, and a release timeline, have not yet been announced.
