In an interview with Variety, Bernadeau and Notni talked about why this remake of the original series will appeal to new generations, as well as the people who grew up with the character. This time, the series follows Diego de La Vega, who returns to California to avenge the death of his father, while he assumes the identity of the vigilante.

According to Bernardeu, they mix “action with comedy and it does feel epic,” but the series also explores “universal topics,” such as growing up and maturing. “Before, Zorro used to be played by people who were older than Diego was supposed to be. Now, we really see his coming-of-age,” he added.
