Period dramas have always been among the most beloved genres in literature, TV and movies. However, most recently, the genre has been re-imagined to include modern values, especially when it comes to diversity (of all kinds). Such examples of this trend include Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” as well as Apple TV+’s “The Buccaneers.” However, Prime Video wants to enter in the competition with “My Lady Jane.”

Based on the bestselling book series by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows, the series is set in an alt-fantasy Tudor world. The story is a reimagining of the life of Lady Jane Grey, Henry VII’s great-granddaughter, who is known for becoming queen of England for only nine days before being executed.

However, the book creates an alternate version of the story. The first trailer of the comedy, which was released on June 17, also promises that this is a version of Lady Jane that isn’t a damsel in distress but rather the hero of her own story. Here’s everything you need to know about this highly-anticipated adaptation.
