The actors met with real drug traffickers and their associates to “ground” the story, according to Lago, the star of the show. In an interview with La Vanguardia, she said: “It helps us dispel the notion that drug trafficking stories are far removed from our reality.”



Lago reached out to individuals who were in similar positions to her character. “Connecting with people who have been or are involved in this has been incredibly valuable for us, allowing us to understand what it’s like to sit across from someone from that world,” the actress shared with eCartelera.

On June 12, 1990, Baltasar Garzón, the central investigating judge of the National Court, and anti-drug prosecutor Javier Zaragoza launched a significant operation against drug trafficking gangs in the&nbsp;aforementioned community. A contingent of hundreds of police officers arrested major tobacco smugglers turned drug traffickers in their homes.



The series draws inspiration from these events. Garzón relied on testimony from two informants known in the media as “The penitents,” one of whom was Manuel Fernández Padín, an active member of one of the clans. Interestingly, Daniel, the main character of “Gangs of Galicia”, is depicted as belonging to that exact group.

Lily is a bright and sweet recent law school graduate who heads to Indonesia with her best friend (Billie Lourd) for a post-grad adventure. Just 37 days later, Lily falls in love, gets engaged to a local Balinese man (Maxime Bouttier), and is ready to abandon her career plans to become a seaweed farmer’s wife.

Stubblefield was an ethics professor at Rutgers University-Newark, and she first met Derrick Johnson, who had cerebral palsy in 2009. They met through Derrick’s brother, John Johnson, who was one of her students. Stubblefield, then 41, offered her help with Derrick, then 30, with his communication skills.



With her assistance, Derrick learned how to use a keyboard to communicate. However, she then started an intimate relationship with him, which he could not fully consent to. Also, Derrick’s mother argued that his son could only use the keyboard with her help, manipulating him. In the documentary it is said that Subblefield was sentenced in 2015, but it doesn’t explain much more than that. Here’s what to know about her case.

The jury found Stubblefield guilty of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and sentenced her to 12 years in prison, but she eventually served less time. Before the sentencing, John Johnson delivered an emotional letter detailing the personal impact of Anna’s actions. An excerpt from his letter reads:



“I don’t think Anna understood the depth of pain she caused my family. She tried to lay claim to him and rename him. She tried to supplant Derrick’s life, a life steeped in the history and culture of his God-fearing, Southern-rooted African American family,” he expressed.

<h2>What happens in Tell Them You Love Me?</h2>



The documentary details the case against Anna Stubblefield, a Rutgers University-Newark ethics professor who was originally convicted in 2015 of sexually assaulting Derrick Johnson, a nonverbal man with cerebral palsy. The two first met in 2009 through Derrick’s brother, John Johnson, who was one of Stubblefield’s students. When John approached the professor about his brother’s condition, Stubblefield, then 41, offered to help Derrick, then 30, with his communication skills.



With Stubblefield’s assistance, Derrick learned to use a keyboard with an LED screen to type and even began taking a university class. Over time, Stubblefield claims that they fell in love and entered into a consensual sexual relationship. However, Derrick’s mother, Daisy Johnson, disputed this, arguing that her son lacked the capacity for physical or emotional intimacy. She also alleged that Derrick’s use of the keyboard was only possible because Stubblefield was manipulating his hands.
