Although “The Society” with Kathryn Newton has had a short life in Netflix‘s catalog, the platform’s original series has managed to captivate thousands of users with its intriguing story and stellar cast.
The first season of the drama revolves around a group of teenagers who must form their own society to survive when the adults mysteriously disappear from the affluent town of West Ham.
Several years after its premiere in 2019 and its cancellation the following year, Christopher Keyser spoke with Variety about the future of the TV show, and it seems that fans might get what they’ve been asking for.
Creator Christopher Keyser spoke about The Society
The creator of the series, Christopher Keyser, spoke with Variety just a few days ago and confessed that he wants to bring back the drama for another season, so he has launched a campaign for a new batch of episodes.
“I have consistent conversations with a bunch of the writers and [executive producer and director] Marc Webb about how we might bring this back in some way”, confessed the American film producer.
Furthermore, he ensured that he is fighting tooth and nail for fans to have the opportunity to find out what really happens and to give a proper ending to the show that has obsessed thousands of users. There, he said:
“The audience still wants to talk about it. They are still moved by it and want answers to the questions and then new questions are posed. I just don’t know whether the world is going to work in a way that aligns for us, but we’ll keep trying for a while because it’s gotten under my skin as well“.
Why was The Society cancelled on Netflix?
Netflix hasn’t been too honest with fans of the show regarding its cancellation, as it hasn’t spoken about the specific reason why it hasn’t wanted to bet on a second season of the dramatic thriller.
Normally, cancellations can be complex and result from a wide variety of factors, including financial considerations, creative decisions, audience and critical reception, among others.
In the case of “The Society”, some reports have suggested that it was thrown into the trash can as a result of some financial challenges related to production, as it was in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
