The first installment of The Maze Runner has come back to life this week, all thanks to Netflix users worldwide. In just a few days, it has become the fourth most-watched movie on the platform, according to Flix Patrol.
The adaptation spawned a series of sequels and contributed to the enduring popularity of the saga in both literature and cinema. The Scorch Trials was the second installment, which also belongs to the Top 10, but in the 6th position.
Dylan O’Brien is the one who brings Thomas to life and who has experienced it all during filming. In one of the installments, the actor was actually injured after performing one of his action scenes.
The cast is quite extensive and features some familiar faces, among the most notable are Kaya Scodelario (who plays Teresa), Will Poulter (who portrays one of the bullies Gally) and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (who portrays Newt).
What is The Maze Runner about?
The story begins with Thomas, who wakes up in a moving elevator and doesn’t remember who he is or how he got there. Upon arriving at the “Glade”, a community inhabited only by young boys, he discovers that they are surrounded by an immense maze filled with dangerous monsters.
The boys in the Glade have established an organized society, with different roles assigned, such as runners, farmers, and leaders. With Thomas’ arrival, unusual events begin to occur, such as changes in the maze and the unexpected arrival of a girl, Teresa.
The movie focuses on Thomas and the others’ efforts to decipher the secrets of the maze and find a way to escape. They face numerous challenges, including the dangerous Grievers that lurk in the maze.
As the plot progresses, dark secrets are revealed about the true nature of their confinement and the mysterious organization behind it all, known as WCKD.
