Netflix is already gearing up for Halloween, and the soaring viewership of “The Deliverance” proves it. Less than 24 hours after its release, the film has become the most-watched movie in the United States.
Originally released in select theaters on August 16, the picture quickly sparked conversation for being based on a well-known true story that caused panic in Indiana in 2011, and it’s considered one of the most unsettling possession cases of the past 20 years.
While many reviews reveal the flick doesn’t offer anything new compared to recent horror blockbusters, it’s still a must-watch if you’re getting ready for the spooky season!
‘The Deliverance’ occupies the Top 1 on Netflix US
Horror films based on true events often attract significant popularity, and “The Deliverance” is no exception. Within hours, the movie quickly soared to the top spot on Netflix’s United States ranking, according to FlixPatrol.
Despite the strong streaming performances of “Migration” and “The Union” in recent weeks, the spooky title surpassed them. Currently, its only major competition is “Incoming,” a trending coming-of-age comedy.
“The Deliverance” is based on the chilling story of the Ammons family, who moved to a house in Gary, Indiana, in November 2011, and almost immediately began experiencing paranormal activity, from children levitating to being choked by unseen forces.
It boasts a stellar cast, with Andra Day, Glenn Close, Anthony B. Jenkins, Caleb McLaughlin, and Demi Singleton in lead roles, supported by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Mo’Nique, Omar Epps, and others.
The production will be particularly engaging if you enjoy comfort horror—the type popularized by James Wan, filled with jumpscares and unexpected plot twists. However, if you’re more into psychological stories, you might want to explore other options
