The South Korean series “Parasyte: The Grey” has become the new number 1 title on Netflix worldwide, according to FlixPatrol. Per the specialized website, the series has surpassed “3 Body Problem” and “The Gentlemen,” which are second and third on the most-watched list, respectively.

Also, the series achieved this feat with only two days on the platform, as it premiered on April 5. It is based on the manga Parasyte by Japanese author Hitoshi Iwaaki, while Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan, Hellbound, Jung_E) directs.

While the series is a sci-fi horror, specifically the “body snatcher” genre. According to what Yeon told Netflix Tudum, this means “that these beings that we know to be very ordinary turn out to be something completely different… [Parasyte: The Grey] really deals with that intense horror of finding that out.”

What is ‘Parasyte: The Grey’ about?

The series, set in Korea, is set in a world where humans have become infected by unknown parasites which have taken over their brains, controlling humans. However, one person, Su-in, has been able to cohabit with a parasite, being the only one who hasn’t transformed.

Meanwhile, the government has created an aggressive anti-parasite task force called Team Grey to annihilate every single one of them. Will Su-in survive? According to what director Yeun told Netflix, the series is about “coexistence.”

Who is in the cast of ‘Parasyte: The Grey’?

Jeon So-nee (Our Blooming Youth) plays Jeong Su-in/Heidi, while Lee Jung-hyun (Decision to Leave) portrays Choi Jun-kyung, leader of the Team Grey task force. Speaking to Netflix Tudum, So-nee said that her character didn’t care about “living,” but after her experience with the parasite “she thinks about how it’s good to have people around her, and how good it is to live and survive.”

Meanwhile, Jung-hyun explains that her character, a professor at the police academy, undergoes a “complete change” after she loses her husband to the parasites: “Since then, she almost feels like killing off the parasites is a game to her.” The rest of the cast consists of:
