One of the most recent additions to the most-watched list on Netflix US is the war drama “Megan Leavy,” which is currently in the fifth spot of the Top 10 on the platform, according to FlixPatrol. The drama arrived on the service on April 9th, meaning it achieved this feat in only a day.

The movie stars Kate Mara, who is known for her roles in titles such as “Fantastic Four,” “House of Cards” and “Shooters.” The rest of the cast also includes Tom Felton, who is widely known for her role as Draco Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” film series.

Gabriela Cowperthwaite, better known for her work as documentary filmmaker, directs the film, which is based on the real life of a female Marine named Megan Leavey and a combat dog named Rex. It was written by Pamela Gray, Annie Mumolo, and Tim Lovestedt.

‘Meagan Levy,’ a touching real-life story that triumphs on Netflix

As we said, the story centers on Megan Leavy, a US Marine corporal who served alongside military working dog Rex. The pair served two deployments in Iraq together, in 2005 and 2006. In the latest, they both were wounded by an explosive device.

Leavy received the Purple Heart and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with a “V” device denoting heroism in combat. The story mostly follows her battle to adopt Rex, who suffered from facial palsy, ending in his duties in 2012.

Apart from Mara, who plays the titular role, and Felton, the movie stars Ramón Rodríguez, Bradley Whitford, Will Patton, Sam Keeley, Common, Edie Falco, Damson Idris, Alex Hafner, Parker Sawyers, Geraldine James, and Corey Johnson.

First released in 2017, “Megan Leavy” received positive reviews from critics due to its sensitivity and performances. The film holds 85 percent of approval on Rotten Tomatoes from 103 reviews. It grossed $14 million at the box office.
