Iron Reign plot: What is the series about?

The story of “Iron Reign” follows Joaquín Manchado, portrayed by Fernandez, who exercises strict control over his drug empire from Barcelona’s seaport, but when a new shipment disrupts both his business and family, chaos ensues.

In an interview with verTele, Fernandez said that his character is “very clear about what role he occupies and how he has to fight to maintain that role.” However, Manchado has also “suffered a lot in life” and only wanted to “hold onto power” but that means he “has to do very tough things.”

Is ‘Iron Reign’ based on a true story?

No, “Iron Reign” is not based on a true story. However, Quílez explained that is “a connection with what happens in reality and fictional stories that generate interesting plots,” as he told Diario de Sevilla in Spanish.

He further said that the creators didn’t base the characters “on specific people; we start from crimes linked to the port of Barcelona and from there everything unfolds.” So, the series took some real elements to create a fictional story.

However, the production of the series did take place in Barcelona, and all the locations are real. “The localization process was part of our investigation to create the story. All the settings are real; everything has been filmed outdoors,” Quílez told Diario de Sevilla.
