According to FlixPatrol, the Spanish crime drama “Gangs of Galicia” is one of the trending series on Netflix in the US. The show has entered the sixth spot of the most watched list in only two days after its release on the platform.
Based on true events, the series follows Ana, played by Clara Lago, a woman who discovers that her father, who was killed while working in a tourist sailboat, was secretly trafficking drugs. After that revelation, Ana decides to infiltrate a drug cartel to find out what happened — and get revenge. However, in the process, she falls for a man who’s all too close to the truth.
Created and written by Jorge Guerricaechevarría (Outlaws) and directed by Roger Gual (Elite), the series has definitely the potential to become another hit for Netflix. It could even get a second season.

What have the showrunners of the series said?
Jorge Guerricaechevarria, the showrunner and writer of the series, didn’t just draw from one true story but several. He investigated the drug trafficking scene in the region, weaving the most significant aspects of this criminal activity into Ana and Daniel’s narrative.
He dedicated weeks to investigating the drug clans of Galicia, an extensive autonomous community in Spain that includes the provinces of La Coruña, Lugo, Ourense, and Pontevedra, encompassing three hundred and thirteen municipalities.
The actors met with real drug traffickers and their associates to “ground” the story, according to Lago, the star of the show. In an interview with La Vanguardia, she said: “It helps us dispel the notion that drug trafficking stories are far removed from our reality.”
Lago reached out to individuals who were in similar positions to her character. “Connecting with people who have been or are involved in this has been incredibly valuable for us, allowing us to understand what it’s like to sit across from someone from that world,” the actress shared with eCartelera.
