Miller’s Girl is not only one of the most controversial films of 2024, but its two protagonists have been involved in some scandals due to the intense scenes in the drama, which is a twisted love story.

Jenna Ortega (Beetlejuice 2) brings to life Cairo Sweet, a young and precocious writer who becomes involved with her creative writing teacher, played by Martin Freeman (Sherlock), from high school.

The movie is a dark drama that examines the blurred lines of emotional connectivity between teacher and protégé, youth and adult. Now, the film is set to make its big debut on Netflix‘s catalog.

When is Miller’s Girl coming to Netflix?

Miller’s Girl, the atypical dark romance that seems to have come straight out of Wattpad, has found a home on streaming and will be added to Netflix’s catalog on Thursday, April 25, according to the platform’s new releases.

The film was written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, marking her debut as a screenwriter and film director. Originally conceived as a stage play in 2011, but it was featured on the Black List platform as a standout screenplay.

The production was surrounded by controversy, particularly due to the significant age gap between the actors, as the actress from Wednesday is 21 years old and the actor from Black Panther is 52 years old.

Ortega talked about her experience making the leap to this more adult content and during an interview confessed that initially she “was afraid” to carry out the project. She also assured that it was the character that convinced her:

“I remember that Cairo surprised me a lot by what she had experienced in my career and I think many young girls can say the same. I think teenagers are often written in the same way, spoiled and without nonsense, but Cairo is so smart and wise beyond her age that I was excited to be able to explore her“.
