Apart from Chalamet, Ferguson and Zendaya, the sci-fi epic also stars Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, and more. And yes, there are more “Dune” books to adapt. Here’s what Villeneuve has said about a possible third Dune film.

Will there be a third Dune movie?

Villeneuve, who has written and directed the first two films, divided the first book into two parts. But the Canadian director has already confirmed that he has an interest in adapting the second book, “Dune: Messiah.” While Warner Bros. has not yet given the official greenlight for a third film so far, the director has said that he is working on the script.

In an interview with Time, Villeneuve said that “The screenplay is almost finished but it is not finished. It will take a little time […] There’s a dream of making a third movie […] it would make absolute sense to me.” Another member of the crew has also started working on the potential sequel, as composer Hans Zimmer has also started working on the score for the adaptation of “Dune: Messiah.”

Talking to Variety, Zimme revealed that he hasn’t stopped writing music for “Dune” because during the second day of shooting “Part Two,” “Denis wordlessly comes in and puts “Dune: Messiah” on my desk, and I know where we’re going and I know we’re not done,” he said.

However, Villeneuve also told Time that if “Messiah” moves forward, it would be his last movie for the Dune franchise. “’Dune Messiah’ should be the last ‘Dune’ movie for me,” he revealed to the publication.

How many ‘Dune’ books are there?

While Villeneuve would be done with “Messiah,” Herbert’s original series continues with five sequels to “Dune”: “Dune Messiah,” “Children of Dune,” “God Emperor of Dune,” “Heretics of Dune” and “Chapterhouse: Dune.”

The Green Knight is one of the most iconic films of 2021, and it has continued to be a trend to this day, especially due to some scenes that have made a strong impression on both audiences and critics.

The drama, which tells the fantastical medieval tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight reimagined, was directed by David Lowery. The screenplay was also written by the director but is based on the poem by The Gawain Poet.

Dev Patel is the one who brings the main character to life, but he wasn’t the only one to shine; he was accompanied by big stars such as Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Sarita Choudhury and Joe Anderson.

The Green Knight has finally had its long-awaited streaming debut, and the reimagining has been added to the Max catalog, available for streaming starting Friday, March 1. It is also for purchase and rental on Prime Video and Apple TV.

(Source: IMDb)

The film stands out for its impressive art direction, costume design, and cinematography, offering a unique visual aesthetic that blends elements of medieval fantasy with a surreal and dark touch.

The narrative explores themes such as honor, bravery, the search for identity and the confrontation with mortality. Sir Gawain faces various trials on his journey, each designed to test his character and loyalty to chivalrous ideals.

Dev Patel is the one who brings Gawain to life, accompanied by Alicia Vikander as Essel, Joel Edgerton as The Lord, Joe Anderson in the role of Paris, Ralph Ineson as the Green Knight and Barry Keoghan as Scavenger, among others.

The director talked about making the film

Indie Wire had the opportunity to speak with the Texan director, David Lowery, who is not only an innovative storyteller but also holds The Green Knight in quite a special regard, especially for how he brought the idea to life.

During an interview with the outlet in 2021, the filmmaker confessed that he delayed the A24 release by a year and even considered quitting his career, as it was “a very existential year”.

Additionally, he also talked about how he made the film and said:

“I didn’t have the idea to turn it into a movie until about 11 months before we started shooting it. It was a very sudden obsession. I certainly always wanted to make a fantasy film. Whether it’s ‘Willow’ or ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ I’ve always loved that genre.

At that particular time in my life, I wanted to make a film about someone on a quest. I thought about the poem, and I thought it would be a good template for a film. I didn’t even know if I would necessarily adapt ‘Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’ or if I would use elements of that text for a film that would have been something different and entirely original.

I thought maybe I could make a film about a knight on horseback traveling through the landscape that I could shoot somewhere in Texas. Then I took the poem and started rereading it.
Benson reveals the inspiration behind ‘The Greatest Hits’

In an interview with Elle, Benson revealed that he started writing the script for the film in 2008. However, it was in 2020 when he picked it back up. He told the magazine that during the pandemic, music “was the thing that really kept our spirits up and gave us hope and connected us and reminded us to live.”

“I think I also needed more heartbreak, more relationships, [and] more experience to really make sense of what this movie was about, which is that we have capacity in our hearts to love more than one person,” he added.

Meanwhile, talking about the cast, Benson said that he immediately knew that Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody, Chevalier) was the right choice for Harriett. “I remember it was her first big scene and I was like, Oh wow, this person is amazing and special, and she’s such an incredible actor,” he told the magazine.

About Min, who recently appeared in “Beef,” he said that he is “just very vulnerable and amazing. And I was like, Oh, this is who David is. He has that sweetness and openness; he was a proper human being.”

Luca Guadagnino, known for being responsible for Call Me By Your Name, has a new project in sight, and it’s called Queer, an LGBT drama that will feature Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey as the protagonists.

Currently, the film is in post-production, and its script is an adaptation by Justin Kuritzkes (Challengers), based on the 1985 novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs, which has become a classic.

The director’s unique storytelling style has transformed his career, and now, this title has solidified itself as one of the most anticipated, especially among young adults. Here, check when the movie will be released…

Who are the cast of Queer?

Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey are the protagonists of the dramatic story, playing the roles of Lee and Allerton. Both will bring to life the couple that experiences multiple ups and downs but travels a truly emotional journey.

Although there isn’t much information about the movie itself yet, the cast is already known, with some new additions. Ariel Schulman will portray Tom Weston, while Colin Bates will be Tom Williams.

On the other hand, figures such as Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Drew Droege, Henrique Zaga, Ronia Ava, Simon Rizzoni, Perla Ambrosini, Francesco Lupo Sturani and Sean Cubito, will also be present.

Daniel Craig attends the World Premiere of “NO TIME TO DIE” — Drew Starkey attends the Prada Fall/Winter 2024 Menswear Fashion Show.
What is Queer about?

The movie will portray the story of William Lee, a man who escaped a drug raid in New Orleans and now wanders through the clubs and bars of Mexico City, where he falls madly in love with a former U.S. military man named Allerton.

After the publication of the LGBT romance novel, speculation arose about how real the events in the story are, and many of them are of an autobiographical nature.

The novel is influenced by Burroughs’ experiences in Mexico in the 1940s, including his relationship with a young man named Allerton, who serves as inspiration for the character of Allerton in the work.

Daniel Craig in Queer. (Source: IMDb)

When will Queer be released?

Queer will have its long-awaited big-screen debut near the end of 2024. Although there is no exact date confirmed yet, it was announced that there are only a few months of waiting, as filming began in the summer of 2023 in Italy.

Both Drew and Daniel gave interviews to GQ just a few days ago, and there they took the time to talk about their new project together. The young actor referred to what it was like to work on the drama, saying:

“The process of collaborating with someone like Luca is incredibly freeing and funny and absurd. I trusted him completely. I trusted his viewpoint. I would do anything he would say“.

While the James Bond star spoke about when he saw Starkey’s audition and assured to the director, “That’s the guy”. Furthermore, he added, “I liked Drew from the moment I met him. He’s such a wonderful, kind human being, and that was very obvious to me from the very start“.

However, the narrative incorporates elements of fiction and surrealism characteristic of William’s style, which often blends reality with fantastical and symbolic elements.

What is ‘The Sweet East’ about?

The movie follows Lillian (Ryder), as she’s on a trip to Washington D.C. with the rest of her high school class, when an armed man enters a local restaurant with the intention of stopping the supposed abuse happening in the basement. The scene is a direct reference to the “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory.

Lillian will be “rescued” by left-wing political activist Caleb (Cave), who brings her to a home where he lives with other dissidents. From then on, Lillian decides to not return home and she goes on a journey to the Eastern part of the US.

However, the point of the film is to examine modern America, and its complexities. Critics have praised Williams’ narrative and visual style. However, not everyone is impressed with the result. Chase Hutchinson wrote for Collider that “the longer you look at what can be potent visuals, the more you realize how empty the film itself is,” adding that it doesn’t leave any “real” impression.

However, Will Gluck's film is inspired by a famous William Shakespeare play. And it's not the only rom-com to do so. Here are seven titles based on classics.
" title="‘Anyone But You’ and other films based on classic literature works: Where to watch them" publication_id="SPEN#20240219#SPEN#6930">

The works of William Shakespeare, like The Merchant of Venice and Much Ado About Nothing, have had a significant impact on cinema and the Hollywood industry over the years, especially within the romantic comedy and emotive drama genres.

If there’s one standout factor in films based on his works, it’s the complex characters and the incorporation of both satirical and tragic elements. Typically, these stories address universal themes such as love, betrayal, ambition and tragedy.

These themes have proven to be timeless and have been integrated into modern cinematic productions to resonate with contemporary audiences, as seen in the case of Anyone but You, which became the highest-grossing adaptation of the author.

My Own Private Idaho – Henry IV, Henry V and more

My Own Private Idaho was directed by Gus Van Sant and released in 1991. It presents a unique and complex story. Although it is not a direct adaptation of a specific work by William Shakespeare, it is influenced by elements from the plays Henry IV: Part 1, Henry IV: Part 2 and Henry V.

The story follows Mike Waters (portrayed by River Phoenix) and Scott Favor (portrayed by Keanu Reeves), two young men who are friends and embark on a road trip in search of Mike’s biological mother.

The narrative also intertwines with elements from Shakespeare’s plays, particularly through the character of Falstaff, portrayed by Bob Pigeon and played by William Richert.

The film incorporates dialogues and scenes that reflect elements from Shakespeare’s plays. Van Sant employs the road movie style to explore themes of identity, family, and searching, similar to how the playwright’s works delve into universal themes through their characters and plots.

Available on Kanopy.

The Lion King – Hamlet

Although The Lion King adapts and softens elements of Hamlet for a younger audience, the influence of Shakespeare’s work is evident in the narrative structure and fundamental themes of the film. The narrative has been praised for its depth and emotional resonance, attributes it shares with the classic work.

Both stories revolve around a young prince who must face the tragedy of his father’s murder and deal with the consequences. The relationship between Mufasa and Simba reflects the relationship between King Hamlet and Prince Hamlet, as the death of the father has a significant impact on both protagonists.

Similarly, like in the classic play, the film addresses themes of betrayal and revenge. Scar, Simba’s malevolent uncle, conspires to usurp the throne, similar to how Claudius, Hamlet’s uncle, conspires to kill King Hamlet.

Available on Disney+.

10 Things I Hate About You – The Taming of the Shrew

10 Things I Hate About You is a teen romantic comedy released in 1999, directed by Gil Junger and starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. It is heavily inspired by William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

The plot follows the Stratford sisters, who are very different. The beautiful and popular Bianca has never been on a date but is eager to, while Kat, her older sister, is feisty and ill-tempered. However, their father won’t let Bianca date until Kat gets one.

Although the film updates the story to a modern high school setting and adds contemporary elements, it retains the essence of Shakespeare’s comedy and has been appreciated for both its wit and fidelity to the original material.

Available on Disney+ and Hulu.

Ex Machina – The Tempest

Ex Machina explores the relationship between humans and androids, especially through the character of Ava, an android with artificial intelligence played by Alicia Vikander. The plot unfolds in a futuristic setting and focuses on the interactions between Ava, a young programmer named Caleb, and Ava’s creator, Nathan.

The film shares thematic elements with some of the themes explored by Shakespeare in his works, such as human nature, morality, and the complexities of relationships. However, its narrative contains similarities to the classic The Tempest.

Available on Max, Prime Video and Kanopy.

Get Over It – A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Get Over It is a teen romantic comedy released in 2001, directed by Tommy O’Haver and starring Ben Foster and Kirsten Dunst. Although it is not a direct adaptation of a specific Shakespearean play, the movie draws inspiration from elements of various works, primarily A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The plot revolves around a young man named Berke, who tries to get over a romantic breakup while participating in a high school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The film incorporates comedy and parody elements, with characters facing complicated romantic situations and typical love entanglements characteristic of the iconic playwright and poet.

While the production takes inspiration from Shakespeare’s works, the story is set in a modern high school environment and uses a lighter and more humorous tone to address themes of love and heartbreak. The influence of the author is primarily reflected in the narrative structure and the comedic elements throughout the film.

Available on Hoopla.

Warm Bodies – Romeo and Juliet

Warm Bodies is a romantic comedy from 2013, directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer. It is based on the novel of the same name by Isaac Marion and revolves around a love story between a zombie named R and a human named Julie.

It is not a direct adaptation of a specific Shakespearean work, but it shares thematic similarities with Romeo and Juliet. The love story between R and Julie is influenced by the dynamics of forbidden lovers and overcoming barriers between two opposing worlds.

In Shakespeare’s play, he presents a tragic love story between two young individuals from feuding families. In the movie, the relationship between a zombie and a human adds a unique twist to the classic narrative of forbidden love.

Available on Hulu, Tubi and Peacock.

Anyone But You – Much Ado About Nothing

While in disguise, Viola falls in love with her teammate Duke Orsino. The situation becomes complicated when Sebastian unexpectedly returns.

Twelfth Night is known for its plot of gender confusion and romantic misunderstandings. Similarly, the movie adapts these elements into a contemporary school setting, using gender disguises and romantic mix-ups to create a fun and entertaining comedy.

Available on Netflix, Paramount+, Prime Video, Hoopla and Kanopy.

West Side Story – Romeo and Juliet

West Side Story is a musical and film that premiered in 1961 and is heavily influenced by William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet.

The plot unfolds in New York City and features two youth gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, coming from different ethnic backgrounds. The story follows Tony, a former Jet member, and Maria, the sister of the Sharks’ leader.

Despite tensions and rivalries between the gangs, Tony and Maria fall in love, facing obstacles similar to those of Romeo and Juliet. The narrative structure, characters, and dynamics of forbidden love reflect the characteristics of the classic play.

Additionally, the music and choreography contribute to the emotional intensity of the story. The works of the playwright serve as a timeless inspiration that has been adapted and reinterpreted in various forms over the years.

Available on Tubi, Kanopy and Hoopla.

Big Business – The Comedy of Errors

Big Business is a comedy released in 1988, directed by Jim Abrahams and starring Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin. Although it is not a direct adaptation of a specific work by the poet, it draws inspiration from elements of comedy of errors and misunderstandings, typical of the playwright’s works.

Decades later, the four women meet in New York, leading to a series of misunderstandings and comedic situations.

The film shares the concept of mistaken identity and comic entanglements, elements common in Shakespearean comedies such as Twelfth Night and The Comedy of Errors. The influence of the author is reflected in the structure of the comedy and the exploration of themes related to identity and the complications of human relationships.

Bill Skarsgård will not only have a great year in terms of his acting career, with several new projects on the horizon, but it has also been confirmed that he will be the protagonist of the long-awaited remake of The Crow.

The original film was originally starring Michael Wincott and Brandon Lee, who tragically died on set during filming due to an incident with a fake gun. Over time, it became a cult classic and it has a solid fan base.

Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) is directing the iconic gothic drama, while Zach Baylin and William Josef Schneider are responsible for the screenplay, adapted from the comic created by James O’Barr.

Who is the cast of The Crow?

Bill Skarsgård, known for bringing Pennywise to life in the It remakes, will return to the big screen to take on the role of Eric Draven, a rock musician who is brutally murdered along with his fiancée on the eve of their wedding.

Bill Skarsgard and FKA twigs in The Crow. (Source: @FilmUpdates and Vanity Fair)

Filling the role of his fiancée Shelly Webster is British singer FKA Twigs, who previously appeared in the dramatic film Honey Boy and the thriller Brighton Beach, with only supporting roles. This will mark her major debut in a leading role.

The cast is not only quite extensive but also features several other stars participating in the project. Among the most notable are Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Jordan Bolger, Isabella Wei, Sami Bouajila, Dukagjin Podrimaj and Jim High, among others.

When does The Crow premiere?

The remake of The Crow now has a release date and will debut on the big screen on August 23, 2024 after being delayed by a month. So, we only have to wait a few months to experience the new version of the iconic gothic tale of supernatural revenge and justice.

The director gave an interview to Vanity Fair where he talked about the project and the intention behind it, stating that it is a kind of tribute to Brandon Lee and the original material released in 1994. He confessed:

“Obviously, it was a terrible tragedy, and it’s definitely something that we’ve always had in mind during the making of the film. Brandon was an original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with The Crow, and I hope he’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve reclaimed the story. His soul is very much alive in this movie. There’s a real fragility and beauty to his version of the Crow, and I think Bill feels like a successor to that”.

What is the remake of The Crow about?

The new version of the classic is a modern reimagining of the beloved character, The Crow, strictly based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel. Therefore, the story will once again follow the paranormal and justice-seeking journey of Eric Draven.

Draven is a rock musician who is brutally murdered along with his fiancée Shelly on the eve of their wedding. After his death, he is resurrected thanks to the intervention of a mystical crow. Guided by the crow, he returns to life with supernatural abilities and a thirst for revenge against those who caused his and his fiancée’s death.

Bill Skarsgard and FKA twigs in The Crow. (Source: IMDb)

The story revolves around Eric’s quest to avenge his own death and the injustice he suffered, confronting the criminals responsible for his misfortunes. Before long, he becomes a supernatural vigilante, known for his distinctive appearance with facial makeup that mimics a crow.

In the original movie, Eric and Shelly’s deaths happen within the first few minutes of the drama, but this time, Rupert Sanders confessed to Vanity Fair that he always wanted his version to have a bit more balance between light and darkness.

Jessica Chastain and Al Pacino will join forces to bring to life the next adaptation based on a work by William Shakespeare about King Lear, which has now become one of the most anticipated titles of the year.

The film will be produced by Barry Navidi, who, according to Deadline, will be collaborating with the actor for the fifth time, following several successful classics such as The Merchant of Venice, Wilde Salomé, Salomé and Modi.

Bernard Rose will not only direct the drama but will also be responsible for writing the script, which will feature the two Oscar-winning stars. Here, check out everything about Lear, Rex…

Al Pacino and Jessica Chastain collaborate on Lear, Rex

This is not the first time Al Pacino and Jessica Chastain collaborate in a movie; on the contrary, they previously worked together on Wild Salomé. This time, the duo will co-star in the drama based on William Shakespeare’s play.

Al Pacino and Jessica Chastain attend a screening of “Salome and Wilde Salome” at BFI Southbank on September 21, 2014.
The Godfather actor will portray the main character, King Lear, while The Eyes of Tammy Faye actress will play Goneril. So far, they are the only two who have been chosen to form the cast.

According to Deadline, Pacino believes that these kinds of masterpieces should be “tested more often in film” to be able to “take the humanity that Shakespeare writes into the characters and express it“.

What is Lear, Rex about?

Well, at the moment, the official storyline for the adaptation has not been confirmed, but the original play follows an elderly king who divides his land among his three daughters to prevent future conflicts.

However, he rejects the young daughter who genuinely loves him and places his trust in his malevolent sisters, who strip him of his power and condemn him to a miserable wasteland of horror and madness.

The tragedy is set in the British kingdom and culminates in several devastating events with deaths, betrayals, and reflections on power, loyalty, and human nature. The relationship between Lear and Cordelia is particularly poignant.

The production team spoke about the future of the project

Some members of the production team have not hesitated to reveal some details about the project, and producer Barry Navidi was one of them, who spoke with Deadline and confessed:

Argylle is the action comedy with a cast full of A-list stars, such as Dua Lipa and Henry Cavill, that has been causing discussions in recent months, especially because there are many who loved it and others not so much.

The excessively uneven but highly entertaining story follows a super spy who is drawn into a treasure hunt that takes him around the world, but his tumultuous past could jeopardize the mission.

Matthew Vaughn directed the film, based on a script written by Jason Fuchs. Various figures have accompanied the actor and the singer, such as Bryce Dallas Howard and Sam Rockwell, who co-star in the drama.

How and when to watch Argylle online

Argylle already has its online debut scheduled, and if everything goes according to plan, the spy drama-comedy will arrive on March 5th this year, available for purchase or rent through Prime Video, Vudu, Apple TV and other platforms.

According to WhenToStream.com, it is currently only known when it will be available for PVOD (Premium Video On Demand) viewing, but not yet for regular streaming. Its arrival on streaming services is believed to happen a few weeks after being introduced on purchase platforms.

What some have announced as a chronicle of a foretold disaster, others have found it to be one of the best comedies of the year, especially due to the extensive cast filled with A-list stars, such as Dua Lipa and Henry Cavill.

The story is packed with distinctive elements, characteristic of the director, such as exaggerated action and multiple plot twists that have been showcased in previous film productions, like Kick Ass.

Bryce Dallas Howard and Bryan Cranston talked about Argylle

Bryan Cranston and Bryce Dallas Howard play two of the most significant characters in the Argylle plot, bringing to life Director Ritter and Elly Conway. In January, they gave an interview with Screen Rant and spoke about how they carried out the drama.

The stars, known for Jurassic World and Breaking Bad, discussed what it was like to work with the director, who often pushes his actors out of their comfort zones when it comes to certain scenes. There, they confessed:

“What Jason Fuchs, our writer and producer, quoted is exactly right. The nature of the ambition of this film just pushed everyone out of their comfort zone, and that’s exciting. And it’s especially exciting when you feel you can do it safely. That’s what the job is about: maybe going too far, maybe embarrassing yourself, maybe there’s some intrigue at certain points”, Bryce Dallas Howard said.

“Well, the tone and style of a Matthew Vaughn film require you to jump into the unknown and allow yourself to explore. He certainly encourages it, and on set, he’ll be shouting things. ‘Try this, try this. Go further, go further. No, hold that back. Now go…’

He’ll be shouting, and it’s a bit chaotic, but that also amps up the energy and excitement. It’s all exploration, and it’s like a great exercise in trust. You understand what your character wants, but you’re not always sure where the twists are coming from”, Bryan Cranston said.
