The 2024 Oscars’ nominations were announced on Jan. 23, and as always there were snubs and surprises. And some were more pleasant than others. While the media and audiences are still pretty much shocked with Greta Gerwig’s absence in the Best Director’s race, the bright side was the inclusion of Justine Triet, director of “Anatomy of a Fall.”
The legal drama is available to watch online by renting it on Amazon, Apple TV, Google Play, Vudu and YouTube. The movie follows novelist (Sandra Hüller), who stands trial for murdering her husband at their Alpine chalet.
The French film also earned nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress (Sandra Hüller), Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing. Thanks to it’s inclusion in the Best Picture category, it’s the first time that three films directed by women (Celine Song’s Past Lives and Gerwig’s Barbie) will be competing for the biggest prize.

‘Anatomy of a Fall,’ distributed by Neon in the US, will stream on Hulu from March, 22. The French film premiered in US theaters in limited release on October 13th, 2023, before streaming on VOD/Digital on December 22nd, 2023.
‘Anatomy of a Fall’ won the Palm d’Or at Cannes
Of course, this isn’t the first major recognition for the French film, which odly wasn’t their option for the Best International Film, as it already won the Palm d’Or at Cannes. While the courtroom procedural is appealing in itself, the movie is also an exploration of a difficult marriage.
The movie also is coming from two big wins at the Golden Globes Awards: Best Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film. It also received seven nominations at the 77th British Academy Film Awards, including Best Director and Best Film. The BAFTAs are due to Feb. 18th.
Apart from Hüller, the movie also stars Milo Machado Graner, who also received rave reviews for his performance as his legally blind son. Meanwhile, Swann Arlaud plays the lawyer that has inspired thousands of fancams on social media.
