Just when it looked like “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” and “Family Affair” were going to dominate the Netflix worldwide charts for many weeks to come, along came “Vanished into the Night,” which rapidly dethroned the Zac Efron comedy and is now battling against Eddie Murphy‘s latest title for the top spot.

The drama revolves around a couple facing a harsh divorce, whose children suddenly disappear. Just when they couldn’t be more desperate, the father receives a call demanding money for their rescue. But that is just the tip of the iceberg.

While the film received mixed reviews, it can’t be denied that it’s a very good Sunday watch to keep you on the edge of your seat. Want more? Good news—the flick is based on another film, which you can find on various streaming services.

All on ‘The 7th Floor,’ the Argentinian drama on which ‘Vanished into the Night’ is based

Tudum, the official Netflix news site, confirmed that “Vanished into the Night” is inspired by “7th Floor,” an Argentinian mystery production released in 2013 that was a success in Spanish-speaking countries.

As you can imagine, the plot is quite similar. However, there is a small difference. The movie receives its name from a scene where the father loses sight of his children when they compete to see who will be faster: him going down in the elevator or his sons on the stairs. From then on, he searches for them desperately.
