Henry Cavill (The Witcher and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) has just added a new project to his list, which is a live-action movie bringing back a beloved story, especially for the ’80s generation: Voltron.

The upcoming adaptation, directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber and based on the animated series from the ’80s, follows five young pilots who control robotic lions that combine to form the giant Voltron.

Amazon MGM Studios is developing the drama about the steel robot, and the title has become one of the biggest trends at the moment, not only anticipated by fans of the original TV show but also by the actor’s followers.

What is Voltron about?

Voltron is based on the Japanese science fiction series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. The story blends action with adventure and follows a group of five young pilots who control robotic lions.

These lions can unite to form a giant robot called Voltron, which defends the universe against various threats, primarily from a villain named Zarkon and his evil empire. Despite this, the official plot of the movie is not known.

Voltron is a symbol of heroism and friendship and it has left a lasting mark on pop culture. The upcoming live-action aims to revive this iconic story for a contemporary audience.

Who are the cast of Voltron?

Daniel Quinn-Toye has been the first confirmed cast member, and the young actor won over the studio and the director after his work in the West End alongside Tom Holland, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Henry Cavill has joined to co-star in the action movie, but it is not yet known which specific role he has signed on for. WME and 2PM Sharp represent him. As of October 10, 2024, they are the only ones added to the cast.

When could Voltron be released?

The release date of Voltron is one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the project, as production is in development and they have not yet finished casting all the actors for the cast, so there is still a long way to go.

It could be estimated that it will hit the screen sometime in 2026 or 2027, but it is truly uncertain. Todd Lieberman, Bob Koplar and David Hoberman are some of the producers involved with the title.

The director himself, who is also one of the producers, has written the script along with Ellen Shanman. Therefore, he is really invested in ensuring that everything goes well and is done as faithfully as possible.
