Jim Carrey had announced his retirement from the cameras some time ago, but he is not ready to leave the seventh art just yet. This morning, it was confirmed that he will be back as Dr. Robotnik in the third installment of Sonic.
The filming of the movie has already begun, directed by Jeff Fowler, based on a script developed by Pat Casey and Josh Miller. Just as the comedian and actor confirmed his return to the project, several iconic stars did the same.
It won’t be long before we get to know the continuation of Sonic the Hedgehog, as it is set to arrive in late 2024, a few days before Christmas. This time, the trio of heroes will once again face a threat that is trying to conquer the world.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has much of its cast returning, and it has finally secured a release date. The sequel will hit the big screen on December 20, 2024, allowing us to celebrate Christmas with this exciting story.

According to Variety, Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara and Hitoshi Okuno will produce the movie, with Fowler also returning to direct the third installment, just as he did with the last two.
Previously, Sonic the Hedgehog had a significant impact at the box office and was well-received by both the audience and critics, surpassing initial box office expectations and becoming one of the most successful video game adaptations.
It is estimated that the same will happen with the third installment. The first movie grossed $149 million in the United States and Canada, and $170.7 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $319.7 million.
Meanwhile, the sequel grossed $403.8 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing video game movie in the United States, the tenth highest-grossing film of 2022, and the fifth highest-grossing video game movie of all time.

The official synopsis of the movie indicates that Sonic, Tails and Knuckles will once again face off against Dr. Eggman before he conquers the world. However, this time he won’t be alone; he will have a new ally, Project Shadow.

The post-credit scene revealed that Dr. Robotnik’s body has not been found, setting the stage for Sonic’s nemesis to make a dramatic and triumphant return, according to Variety.

Jim Carrey is not the only one returning to his iconic villain role; many of the co-stars from the previous installments will be back with him. It has been confirmed that Ben Schwartz will once again voice Sonic, while Idris Elba will be Knuckles, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey will voice Tails.

On the other hand, James Marsden will reprise his role as Tom Wachowski, the loyal friend and companion of the Hedgehog.
