Hollywood is known for remaking horror films from around the world, and now it’s the turn of the 2022 Danish picture “Speak No Evil.” Blumhouse and James McAvoy teamed up to create an English-language version.

Both titles center on a family that meets another during a vacation and decides to spend a weekend at the latter’ idyllic country house. However, tensions rise when the hosts’ true nature begins to emerge, revealing they are not as pleasant as they first appeared.

There is significant anticipation for McAvoy’s role in this remake, as it is crucial to the movie’s horror and marks his return to darker characters. Discussing his preparation for the production, McAvoy mentioned his main influence.

James McAvoy reveals that his psychotic character in ‘Speak No Evil’ was inspired by a publicly canceled figure

In the “Speak No Evil” remake, McAvoy plays Paddy, a character who initially appears to be a devoted partner and father. However, as the protagonist family spends time with him at his country house, they uncover not only his numerous personality flaws but also a dark, deeply buried secret.

In other words, if you appreciated McAvoy’s performance in “Split,” you will be glad to know that this role marks his return to the psychotic archetype. His portrayal in the Shyamalan flick sparked significant debate, with opinions divided between it being one of his best or worst performances.

Now, McAvoy is revisiting this type of fictional persona, and in an interview with Empire Magazine, he revealed that his character is inspired by Andrew Tate! Apparently, the former professional kickboxer’s bad behavior and controversies served as a key influence.

McAvoy aims to make Paddy as despicable and unsettling as possible and Tate, a highly canceled public figure, is known for his misogynistic comments and serious criminal charges, including assault. It seems the “Filth” star delved into some very dark places to deliver a compelling performance in “Speak No Evil”! We will have to wait and see.
