The “Scream” franchise isn’t slowing down. According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Spyglass Media Group has officially begun development on “Scream 8,” with sisters Lilla Zuckerman and Nora Zuckerman attached to write the screenplay.
The move signals an early but notable step forward for the slasher series, which continues to expand even as its most recent installment remains fresh in theaters and on digital platforms.
From ‘Poker Face’ to Ghostface: A New Creative Team Steps In
The Zuckerman sisters arrive with a résumé rooted in television, most recently serving as showrunners on “Poker Face,” the critically recognized murder mystery title on Peacock. Their past credits also include writing and producing roles on series such as “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Prodigal Son,” “Suits,” “Fringe,” and “Haven.”
Their hiring comes as the franchise navigates a period of reinvention. The recently released “Scream 7” marked a turning point both on and off screen. Directed by Kevin Williamson, who returned to a central creative role after writing the original film, the seventh installment refocused the story on Sidney Prescott and introduced a new generational threat targeting her family.
The production of “Scream 7” was notably turbulent. After the departure of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and later Christopher Landon, the project underwent a significant creative overhaul. Casting changes also reshaped the picture before cameras rolled in early 2025, with Williamson ultimately stepping in to direct.
Despite mixed critical reception, “Scream 7” proved commercially resilient, becoming the highest-grossing entry in the series with more than $200 million worldwide. That performance appears to have reinforced the studio’s confidence in continuing the franchise, even as its creative direction evolves.
Details on the plot, returning cast, or timeline for “Scream 8” remain under wraps. However, bringing in writers with a strong television background suggests a continued emphasis on character arcs and serialized storytelling threads.
